Just because the holidays are fast approaching, doesn’t mean your job search should come to a halt. There is a well-believed myth that all job search efforts at this time of year are wasted. In fact, just the opposite is true. I have a friend that came to me recently with an issue of productivity. Her office management had just instituted a “No Talking” policy in the office. This meant no inter-office communication was allowed that wasn’t work or client related. The management thought this idea would encourage employees to be more productive. If you can’t talk about non-work related topics, you might as well work, right? We had to laugh at the irony of the idea because in fact the “No Talking” policy did the exact opposite; everyone became discouraged and therefore less productive.
It seems as though there are never enough hours in the day to complete everything we need to do in the office. The stereotypical “9-5” hours are becoming more of a thing of the past. But could there be ways to be more efficient in the hours spent in the office so we don’t have to set up cots in our offices?

Colleges and Universities across the U.S. are starting their fall classes again in the upcoming weeks. For many College Seniors this means their final semester is almost here with the realization that their job hunt needs to begin. According to a 2013 Accenture poll, only 39% of the classes of 2011 and 2012 had jobs lined up by the time they graduated; for 2013, just 16% had job offers a month before their commencement. It’s apparent that the job market for college students is continuously getting more and more competitive.
TransTech IT Staffing decided to launch a pilot internship program for the summer of 2014. We were surprised at the number of applications we received for this program! After we identified the most impressive resumes, conducted phone interviews, checked references, and met the candidates face-to-face; 5 interns were chosen. We thought it would be interesting to sit down with our interns and get their advice on what they did in their last semester of college to successfully prepare for the real world.
